Libraries across Leicestershire, including Ashby, Coalville and Measham, as well as the library bus, are once again holding a summer reading challenge - this year themed Story Garden.

The challenge is running between 5th July and 6th September in all Leicestershire County Council-run and community-run libraries.

The Story Garden challenge hopes to get children to engage with the library and spread awareness in the community that the libraries have more to offer than just books.

Clare Lister, Supervisor of Ashby and Coalville Library, told Ashby Nub News that over 250 children have already signed up for the reading challenge.

The challenge is great for book worms and hesitant readers, with visiting the library the only requirement for children to take part. On the first visit to the library, children will be given their Story Garden sheet, information about the challenge for parents and their first two stickers.

At two more subsequent visits to the library, children will receive two sticker each time so on their third visit, they will have collected all six stickers and will then receive a special badge and sticker as a reward with a plantable bookmark made of seed paper.

This hopes to encourage children to enjoy the library and encourage them to get interested in books, including audiobooks, graphic novels and other types of books.

The library also has a scavenger hunt where children have to spot the six characters from the Story Garden hidden around the library. There is also a busy calendar of events, including a Lori Hopkins Puppetry workshop and Bear Hunt obstacle course.
