Future use of former Santander site in Ashby is still uncertain despite talk of Domino's interest

The future of the former Santander Bank building in Ashby remains uncertain.

In a week when HSBC Bank announced it would be leaving its Market Street premises, the site formerly occupied by Santander has remained vacant since last July.

It is believed that Domino's Pizza purchased the freehold for the building, but despite the company saying last year they want a base in Ashby, nothing has happened since.

When asked about the latest developments this week, a spokeswoman for Domino's told Ashby Nub News: "There's no further update on the progression of this store."

It means the site has been left empty at a time when Ashby does not want shopfronts standing empty.

Last August, Domino's admitted Ashby was on their list of targets as they already have outlets in Coalville, Swadlincote and Castle Donington.

The American multinational pizza takeaway chain has over 1,000 outlets in the UK.

A spokeswoman for Domino's explained last year: "Ashby de la Zouch is a town we'd like to be located in.

"At this stage it's too early to confirm any further details."

A refit of the building would require planning permission and no application has been made yet.
