Former Ashby Mayor donates over £4k to local charities
By Grace Kennington 7th Jul 2026
Former Mayor of Ashby, Cllr Damilola Ojuri, has presented two local charities with funds raised throughout her time as Mayor.
'For my mayoral year,' said Cllr Ojuri, 'I chose to support Inspire Youth Collective CIC and the Rotary Club of Ashby de la Zouch Castle as my designated charities.
'I selected these organisations because of the inspiring work they do to support and inspire young people within our community.
'Throughout my time as Mayor, my focus has always been on investing in the next generation. Our young people are instrumental in shaping the future, and I believe they deserve every opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.'
In her year as mayor, Cllr Ojuri raised a total of £4,020 for the two charities.
'I have no doubt that these funds will be put to excellent use, helping to make a positive difference to the lives of young people across our community.
'Although my term as Mayor has come to an end, I remain a town councillor in Ashby de la Zouch and will continue to advocate for our young people and champion the issues that matter most of them.
'Finally, I would like to thank everyone who supported my fundraising throughout the year. Your generosity, kindness and encouragement made this achievement possible and I am truly grateful.'
Councillor Murrae Blair-Park is now in the role of Mayor for the current mayoral year.
