Former Ashby councillors are presented with long service certificates at Legion House

Two former Ashby de la Zouch Town Councillors have been. presented with long-service certificates.

At Monday's council meeting at Legion House in Ashby, Geraint Jones and Graham Allman collected the awards in recognition of 20 years' service to the Town Council and the community which it serves.

Cllr Allman said he thanked town clerk Jack Fargher and all at Legion House for their support, and he added he could not have successfully completed 20 years as a councillor without their assistance.

He added that, over three terms in office as Mayor, and a year as chairman of North West Leicestershire District Council, more than £70,000 had been raised for five good causes.

Cllr Allman added: "Congratulations to Avril Wilson for a most successful year as town Mayor with Bob as consort.

"When I first came to Ashby in 1970 and stood at bottom of Market Street looking up at all the historic black and white timbered buildings, little did I hope or imagine that all those years later that we would, with my wife Charmaigne, be serving three times as mayor and mayoress."
