Residents in Packington and Measham have been issued with flood warnings following heavy rain over the past 24 hours.

The Gov.UK website says river levels are rising at the Packington gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall.

Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible today (Thursday).

Further rainfall is forecast over the next 12 hours.

The Website says: "We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Our incident response staff are actively checking river levels and the weather forecast.

"Please avoid contact with flood water, and call 999 if in immediate danger.

"This message will be updated tomorrow (Friday) or as the situation changes."

The flood warning area is: Gilwiskaw Brook at Packington including Mill Street and Brook Close.

Rising levels in the River Mease have resulted in a flood warning for some areas of Measham and Netherseal.

They include: Huntingdon Way, Mallard Close, Siskin Close, Wordsworth Way and Burns Close in Measham; and Stretton Bridge and Mill Farm in Netherseal.

This warning is due to be updated tomorrow (Friday).

Residents are advised to take extra care if flooding occurs.
