Five new coronavirus cases in North West Leicestershire over the weekend

Five new coronavirus cases were confirmed in North West Leicestershire over the weekend.

In total, there were almost 200 new cases across Leicestershire and Leicester.

Some 99 cases were added to the city's toll – bringing it to 6,142 since the start of lockdown.

Across the county 91 cases were added to cumulative totals.

Broken down to district and borough areas, Charnwood saw the biggest increase with 21 new cases. Blaby, an area of concern for public health bosses, also saw a rise of 20 cases.

Oadby and Wigston, an area that was previously in local lockdown along with Leicester, saw another 18 new cases. Hinckley and Bosworth added 14 cases to its toll and Harborough's toll increased by nine.

North West Leicestershire added five cases and Melton four.

The local figures updated at 4.30pm on Sunday, September 13, were:

Leicester – 6,142 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,733

Blaby – 662 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 652

Charnwood – 993 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 534

Harborough – 470 total cases -. Rate per 100,000 population: 501

Hinckley and Bosworth – 634 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 560

Melton – 242 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 472

North West Leicestershire – 374 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 361

Oadby and Wigston – 625 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 1,096

On Friday night the Government updated local lockdown rules in Leicester, allowing some sectors of the economy to reopen.

But rules about meeting with friends and family at their home or in private gardens remain in place for city residents.

Across the county, the 'rule of six' applies from today, meaning social gatherings are limited to six people including children, wherever they happen.

The local figures updated at 4.30pm on Friday, September 11, were:

Leicester – 6,043 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,706

Blaby – 642 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 632

Charnwood – 972 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 523

Harborough – 461 total cases -. Rate per 100,000 population: 491

Hinckley and Bosworth – 620 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 548

Melton – 238 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 464

North West Leicestershire – 369 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 356

Oadby and Wigston – 607 total cases – Rate per 100,000 population: 1,064
