Five major changes that could transform Ashby - including huge road changes

Five major proposals to transform a historic Leicestershire town – including changes to roads in the area – have been revealed.
Ashby Town Council has laid out five proposals which could see parts of High Street transformed, including a potential memorial and major changes to parking on Market Street and where traffic can go on Brook Street.
The town council is currently asking for thoughts from residents on the proposals until the end of next month.
One change will see the entrance into the centre of town, located on Market Street, include adding a pavement mosaic on the ground, circular benches and a raised pedestrian crossing added to the road.
The town council has said it hopes it will "create a strong and recognisable gateway into the town" and "improve pedestrian safety and slow vehicles as they enter Market Street".
Another plan includes adding a memorial to Bath Street with more seating, a potential outdoor cafe, as well as more seating and signage to the Bath Grounds.
One of the major proposals includes big changes to Market Street, which runs through the centre of the town, which could see more formalised parking spots added, more areas for seating and cycle stands and trees added to the paths.
Brook Street is also on the list for potential improvements, with plans to reduce it to only one-way traffic, repave the nearby car park, and open up a new memorial area.
The final proposals will affect The Green which will replace the roundabout with a T-junction instead, add more green space to the area as well as add a small "pocket park" for residents to enjoy.
Alleyways, or jittys, within the town could also see a substantial change including more signage, brick paving and lighting added – depending on whether they are 'gold', 'silver' or 'bronze' alleyways.
Gold alleyways, such as Lambs Yard and Rushton's Yard, could see better lighting features, seating and opportunities for public art to be displayed along them.
Ashby Town Council is currently holding a consultation, which runs until July 31.
A spokesperson said: "We would like to get the public's feedback on each of the proposals and discuss the options available.
"Providing feedback will help us to redefine the masterplan and will allow us to be able to have costed projects which could be delivered should future funding opportunities become available".
