Five crews were called out to fight a factory fire in Ashby this evening (Monday).

The blaze broke out in Discovery Way - in a McVities distribution centre just off the A511 Ashby by-pass on the road leading to the Tesco Supermarket - just before 6pm.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire is 'under investigation'.

A Fire Service spokesperson said: "A battery powered Forklift truck was involved in a fire inside a commercial storage unit measuring 50 x 250m.

"Fire fighting was in progress using four breathing apparatus personnel and one main jet and one hose reel jet to extinguish fire."

Units from Swadlincote, Castle Donington, Ashby, Coalville and the Command Support Vehicle from Shepshed Station attended the fire.

The Fire Service added: "Further breathing apparatus teams committed to assist with the ventilation of building. Fire is now Extinguished."
