Fitness fans looking to reduce their carbon footprint can now receive discounted bus travel across North West Leicestershire thanks to a new partnership between a leisure provider and a major bus operator.

Everyone Active, which manages Hood Park Leisure Centre in Ashby on behalf of North West Leicestershire District Council, has joined forces with Arriva to create the 'Everyone Active Travel Club,' and provide ticket discounts to any of its members who travel by bus.

This scheme, which includes reduced travel costs for unlimited bus travel seven days a week, is open to all Everyone Active members in the Midlands irrespective of their location.

Those who sign up will be able to use their pass to-and-from work and to get out and about on days off too, all for no extra cost.

At weekends and on public holidays up to two children can also travel free with the ticket holder.

The initiative also includes an ArrivaClick discount scheme for Everyone Active members, which is a wheelchair accessible mini bus service for those who require direct pick-ups and drop-offs.

Members can access ArrivaClick through an easy-to-use smartphone app, which sends a vehicle out when and where they need it. It uses ride-sharing software so customers can combine their journey with other users heading in a similar direction.

Duncan Gibb, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: "We're thrilled to announce this new green transport initiative that will enable any Everyone Active member within the Midlands area to receive significant discounts on their bus travel costs.

"This travel scheme is designed to benefit both our customers and the environment, while supporting the council's strategy around greener travel."

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at North West Leicestershire District Council, said: "We're really pleased that our leisure partner, Everyone Active, is joining us on our journey to reduce carbon emissions and increase greener travel options in North West Leicestershire.

"Our Zero Carbon Roadmap sets out our plan to be carbon neutral as a district council by 2030, and for the entire district to be carbon neutral by 2050.

"To achieve this we need the support of partners and businesses in the district and Everyone Active is setting a great example with this new initiative."
