'Essential' roof repairs needed at listed Ashby shop
By James Smith 27th May 2026
"Essential" roof repairs are needed at an Ashby town centre shop.
Plans to fix issues at Alison Victoria School of Sewing have been submitted to North West Leicestershire District Council.
The application asks for listed building consent for the repairs at the grade II listed building on Market Street
Owners said a roofing contractor found "areas of deterioration" on the roof covering.
Most of the works will involve repairing and replacing damaged slates "on a like-for-like basis".
"The proposed works are therefore limited to essential roof repairs only, with the primary aim of addressing active leaks and preventing further water ingress and deterioration of the historic fabric of the building," the application said.
"Where repairs are required, the approach will be like-for-like wherever possible, including the replacement of damaged or failed slates with matching slate to retain the existing character and appearance of the roof.
"The intention throughout is to preserve the building's historic integrity while ensuring it remains weatherproof and structurally sound."
