Chart topper Paul Young is playing a gig at Conkers in Moira next month with his Los Pacaminos band.

Young had a string of hits in the 80s with songs such as Wherever I Lay My Hat - which reached No1 - Come Back And Stay and Love Of The Common People.

He also had two UK No1 albums, No Parlez and The Secret Of Association.

According to Wikipedia, Young first formed Los Pacaminos in 1993. The reason was Young's desire to get back to basics, as he explained: "I was between record labels and writing material for a new album but I wanted to play live again.

"I've always loved the Tex-Mex sound and knew a few musicians who had a similar passion for this type of music. So I asked them to join me in forming a band."

Conkers describes the September 19 gig as: "A fun-filled night of live Tex-Mex music from the Stetson wearing 7-piece band Los Pacaminos featuring Paul Young, Drew Barfield, Mark Pinder, Steve Greetham, Jamie Moses, Steve 'Woody' Oakman and Melvin Duffy (UK's premier pedal steel player).

"One of the UK's most popular Live touring bands, Los Pacaminos play the very best in Tex Mex Border music from The Texas Tornadoes and Ry Cooder to Los Lobos and even Roy Orbsion

"This is a Tequila fuelled Tex Mex party night, as each venue becomes the perfect cantina setting for a great night's rocking with the cactus sharp, tequila filled, stetson wearing, Magnificent 7, Los Pacaminos!"

Tickets cost £22.00 per person; Doors Open at 6.30pm; Showtime at 7.00pm; You can book online or call 01283 216633.
