Driver in 20s dies after early hours collision between car and lorry on A42 near Ashby

A man in his 20s has died after a 'serious collision' on the A42 near Ashby this morning (Wednesday).

A BMW hit a lorry, which was parked in a layby, at around 5am.

The BMW driver was taken to hospital with what were described as 'life-threatening injuries', but has sadly died since.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: "A white BMW X3 was involved in a collision with a HGV lorry which was parked in a layby on the southbound carriageway of the A42.

"The collision was reported just before 5am and resulted in a full closure on the southbound carriageway between junctions 12 and 11.

"The driver of the BMW was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, but has since died as a result of his injuries.  No one else was injured."

Diversions were put in place following the incident,
