A driver rammed a police car head-on twice before speeding away - narrowly missing hitting one of the officers - in Ashby last night (Thus).

Leicestershire Police is now appealing for dashcam footage following the incident in Moira Road shortly before 9pm.

Two officers from the North West Leicestershire Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA) indicated for the driver to stop, after noticing that the car may have been using false number plates.

The car – a silver 4x4 – did initially stop for officers.

But it then drove head-on into the police car twice, before driving off towards Ashby.

One of the officers in the police car had got out as the suspect vehicle made off at speed.

Detective Sergeant David Wadsworth, from Coalville CID, said: "Our investigation into this incident – and attempts to locate the suspect vehicle – are continuing.

"As the car drove off, one of the officers managed to strike one of the back windows, causing it to break.

"He was lucky to escape without injury as the car made off at speed.

"I would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or saw a vehicle matching this description in Ashby or the surrounding area last night.

"I would also like to speak to anyone who has a dashcam installed in their vehicle. Any footage information you have could help our investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference 20*475443.
