Double yellow lines suggestion on Station Road is addressed by Ashby Town Council amid parking concerns
Double yellow lines could be painted on a section of Station Road to prevent parking congestion - in particular for events on the Bath Grounds.
Last month's meeting of Ashby de la Zouch Town Council's planning committee discussed the matter following concerns raised by the Town Centre Manager, Stuart Benson.
It was agreed by the meeting that the Town Council would write to Leicestershire County Council's Highways Authority to seek advice on the best way to address the problem.
The Town Centre Manager explained that it was increasingly difficult to emerge safely on to Station Road from the entrance to the Bath Grounds due to parked vehicles on both sides of the entrance.
But Cllr Murrae Blair-Park suggested that the problem may only be moved to another part of the town, and that the council should be aware of this.
He told the committee: "When there's an event on at the Bath Grounds, that's fine if we're going to put in yellow lines.
"The issue is that we've got to be clear at events where the alternatives to parking are.
"And I don't think necessarily we've considered that. We'd like to think everybody cycled in, and that doesn't happen.
"So if we're going to put this in place, then I think when we have any events or activity, we need to start highlighting the people visiting where they can park - because we're just bottlenecking an issue.
"Suddenly we've got somebody walking up down that road issuing tickets, and it will come back to us, and we predicted there's going to be an issue.
"That area gets congested. There's a small island in the middle of that road as well, which means you can't park either or you wouldn't be able to move.
"So if we are doing it, I would certainly agree that it probably on the left hand side, as I'm looking at it, it needs to coming up to the Royal. But where should you be parking if you're coming to the event? Because most people just park on that road."
