Council Urging Public To Use Taxis When Pubs And Restaurants Open in Ashby Area On Saturday
North West Leicestershire District Council is urging the public to make use of licensed taxis when pubs and restaurants re-open on Saturday.
The licensing team at the council says it has been working closely with taxi firms to ensure vehicles are Covid-safe and drivers are aware of best industry practice so they can provide safe journeys to customers.
The re-opening of the night-time economy will be a welcome boost to taxi drivers and the council say it is important the industry is supported.
Those using taxis are being reminded:
- Always pre-book journeys
- The front seat in some taxis may not be in use so please check when you book how many passengers the taxi can take
- Pay with card where possible to reduce the need to handle cash
- Wash your hands before and after your trip – or carry hand sanitiser with you
- Consider wearing a face covering
- Respect your driver.
Pub-goers are also being reminded that drink-driving remains as unacceptable as ever.
Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: "Lockdown has been a tough time for many businesses and industries, including taxi firms, and they now need our support as we return to a new normal.
"We're asking people to be responsible and sensible when using pubs – now is not the time for drinking so much that you lose control. But we understand people will want to go out for a few drinks and using taxis to get home is one of the safest choices you can make.
"Please be respectful of the safety measures taxi drivers have put in place and always remember to pre-book with a licensed firm.
"If you are planning to go out to pubs or bars in the coming weeks, enjoy yourselves and thank you for supporting local businesses in a responsible way."
