Council Tells Blackfordby Church It Must Cancel Its Planned Act Of Remembrance

Blackfordby has been told by North West Leicestershire District Council it cannot have its own Act of Remembrance tomorrow (Sunday).

Fr Michael Fish of Blackfordby Church of St Margaret says that Covid-19 restrictions mean it has to be cancelled.

Other towns in the district announced the cancellation of their Remembrance Day commemorations last month.

Fr Fish posted a message on Facebook which reads: "Sorry to do this to you all but I have just received an ear bashing from NW Leicestershire Council regarding the Act of Remembrance this coming Sunday.

"They think it inappropriate that Blackfordby has an Act of Remembrance when everyone else has now cancelled theirs (although I know some are still going ahead that the Cadet Force is attending individually - but then that is Derbyshire).

"It seems that we will, indeed, have to cancel the act of remembrance.

"The British Legion has suggested that a two minute silence is observed at 1100hrs on Sunday - wherever you may be.

"With my sincere apologies to all, especially those service veterans and families who will be affected. Keep safe with God's blessing."
