Coronavirus: South Derbyshire Will Be In Tier 2 From Saturday
South Derbyshire is to go into Tier 2 Coronavirus restrictions from 12.01am on Saturday.
The region's MP Heather Wheeler tweeted the news just after 4.30pm today (Thursday).
This means a high alert level for the areas around Swadlincote and South Derbyshire.
South Derbyshire District Council has confirmed that this means you cannot socialise indoors with people not in their household or support bubble.
The council has also issued a statement which reads: "The main change for residents will be that they must not socialise with anyone not in their own household or support bubble indoors both at home or in a public place and must not socialise outdoors including in a garden or other spaces including parks in a group of more than six, except where exemptions are in place."
Councillor Martyn Ford, South Derbyshire District Council's leader, said: "We understand that moving to tier two will bring difficulties for people, particularly not being able to socialise indoors with others not in their household or support bubble but it is necessary to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
"It is imperative that everyone follows the rules to keep themselves and others safe."
The council adds that people are also asked to reduce the number of journeys they make, walk or cycle where possible and to plan ahead and avoid busy times and routes on public transport.
People must continue to wear a face covering in designated areas unless exemptions are in place, follow social distancing rules and continue to work from home where possible.
Businesses and venues can continue to operate with COVID-19 restrictions in place.
Pubs and restaurants must continue to close at 10pm. Other premises such as drive-throughs or take-aways will be able to serve food after this time.
Schools, colleges and places of worship will remain open and weddings and funerals can go ahead with restrictions on the number of attendees
Exercise classes and organised sport can continue to take place outdoors; these will only be permitted indoors if it is possible for people to avoid mixing with people they do not live with or share a support bubble with. There are exceptions for supervised activities for under-18s, and disability sport.
