North West Leicestershire Police say they were shocked to see a large group of youths gather at Hood Park in Ashby on Tuesday.

It came less than 24 hours after the country was put into effective lockdown and told to stay at home following the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announcing new measures to try and combat the spread of the Coronavirus bug.

And it happened despite widely known guidelines on social contact - meaning people are advised to keep a two metre keep between them.

Police condemned the actions of the youths and posted on their Facebook page: "Patrols of Hood Park in Ashby!

"Shockingly there was a group of 15-20 youths on the park who decided to run off on seeing us!

"I can't stress this enough! Follow the Government guidelines and stay at home!

"Parents/guardians take some responsibility of where your son/daughters are!

"And make sure they are at home! #stayathome #savelives"

In a later update, Police also said that has seized a motorbike after disturbing two more youths

They posted: "Further issues on Hood Park.

"Two youths, one with an off road bike

"Short foot chase and found the bike dumped near by! Bike seized! #stayathome"
