Police had to break up a street party around a fire pit in Woodville - just four miles from Ashby - on Saturday night.

Swadlincote Response Unit have labelled the incident - which involved around 15 people in the middle of the road - as 'unacceptable'.

Coronavirus guidelines make it an offence to have gatherings of any kind while the country is on lockdown in a bid to contain the outbreak.

Swadlincote Police were clearly shocked at the sight of an outdoor party at a time when most people are observing instructions to stay at home other than for essential reasons.

The Response United tweeted their reaction after sending people back to their homes.

They posted: "Group 2 have attended a very bizarre job tonight in Woodville.

"A street party; involving about 15 people including children, surrounding a fire pit IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD!!

"This was subsequently shut down and everyone sent back to their homes.

"This is not acceptable!"

Derbyshire Police have also issued instructions as to what to do if you want to report a possible breach of coronavirus measures.

Before contacting them, they want you to consider:

• is it an emergency?

• is there a threat to life (including road traffic incidents where someone is injured or the road is blocked)

does it feel like the situation could get heated or violent very soon

• is there a risk of serious damage to property

• is a serious offence in progress

• there's serious disruption to the public or there could be

• If so, call 999. But police only want to know about something if you feel there is a significant issue or serious breach of the restrictions.

The police have also referred people to the Government's guidelines during the lockdown.

They say you should only leave the house for one of four reasons:

• Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible

• Going out for one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household - once a day

• Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person

• Travelling only where essential - which includes to and from work, if you're unable to work from home

These four reasons are exceptions - even when doing these things, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are two metres apart from anyone outside of your household and washing your hands when you return home.

The police add: "Enforcement is a last resort for us and we'd prefer to work with the public to resolve situations through clear communication and explaining why they might want to behave differently first."
