BREAKING: The UK has recorded 917 new coronavirus deaths in the latest figures announced on Saturday afternoon - including an 11-year-old.

The Department of Health figures take the total of UK deaths to 9,875 - meaning they are likely to top 10,000 on Easter Sunday.

The figures are accurate as of 5pm on Friday.

The rise recorded by the Department of Health yesterday was slightly lower at 980.

As of 9am today, 269,598 people have been tested for the virus, and 78,991 have tested positive.

Nineteen NHS workers have died so far.

A total of 823 new deaths were in England, with NHS England saying victims there were aged between 11 and 102.

The deaths include 208 in London and 197 in the North West of England.

Some 33 of the victims in England had no known underlying health condition - they were aged between 29 and 94.

Meanwhile, Scotland announced it had recorded 47 new coronavirus deaths - taking the total there to 542.

Another 15 people have died in Northern Ireland, taking the total there to 107.

The news came as Downing Street said the Prime Minister "continues to make good progress" in his recovery from Covid-19.

Mr Johnson was taken into St Thomas's Hospital, then transferred to intensive care.

Dominic Raab, the Foreign Secretary, is deputising for him.
