Coronavirus: Epidemic Forces Council To Shut Ashby Facility As Part Of County-Wide Closures

Leicestershire County Council has taken the decision to close all of its recycling and household waste sites until further notice.

That means the Lount Recycling and Household Waste Site near Ashby is shut.

The council says the move follows Prime Minister Boris Johnson's announcements of strict new curbs on life in the UK to tackle the spread of coronavirus.

As part of the measures announced by the Government, people may only leave home to exercise once a day, to travel to and from work where 'absolutely necessary' to shop for essential items and to fulfil any medical or care needs.

The county council has also announced that it is closing its children and family well-being  centres, again until further notice, as well as, from tomorrow, locality offices used by adult social care staff.

Weddings which are booked  at the council's  registration offices across the county have also been cancelled and will be re-arranged at a later date. People will still be able to register deaths.

The council says: "This is a challenging situation, we're doing everything we can as a council and it remains vital that residents follow Government advice as it is clarified. We all need to play our part to stop the spread of coronavirus and save lives."

On Sunday, all country parks across the county were closed until further notice with the council encouraging people who can openly access sites to follow strict social distancing. All museums and libraries are also closed.
