North West Leicestershire District Council says there will not be any changes to waste collections in the Ashby area over the Easter holidays.

Everyone should leave their bins out as normal on their usual days.

But the Council has reminded residents that garden waste and cardboard collections are still suspended and will not be collected if you leave them out.

From Monday 30 March garden waste and cardboard collections were suspended across the district.

The council said on its dedicated North West Leicestershire District Council Coronavirus Information Page: "We're really sorry – we know these collections are important to you.

"Staffing pressures and the need to do more to help our crews follow social distancing guidance means we need to slim down our service and prioritise black bin and recycling collections - these will continue as normal.

"If you have space please consider setting up a compost heap for your garden waste and cardboard.

"Thank you for your understanding and the support.

"We have also currently suspended our collections of:

•Bulky waste

  • Food waste (for the 2,000 households on the trial in Measham, Appleby Magna, Appleby Parva, Chilcote, Newton Burgoland, Snarestone and Swepstone)

"All black bin and recycling collections are currently running as normal.

"Please note, we are unable to take side or additional waste next to black bins. We are not able to offer this as we only have the staffing and operational capacity to empty black bins. We thank customers for their understanding."

Earlier this week, we reported that leisure centre staff from Ashby and Coalville and retraining as refuse collectors during the Coronavirus crisis Ashby leisure staff retrain as binmen
