Police officers on beat duty in Ashby found four people in a car and in possession of cannabis - while also breaking the rules on social gathering during the Coronavirus crisis.

North West Leicestershire Police say the individuals were caught parked off a main road.

And they have issued a reminder that everyone should take the current Government regulations seriously.

The posted a photo of the vehicle and then explained what happened on their Facebook page on Friday: "Ashby Beat Officers PC Bell and PC Gregory were on mobile patrols when a vehicle was located parked up off a main road.

"Inside were four individuals, all not of the same household.

"Whilst explaining to them what they were doing was wrong and inconsiderate, the smell of cannabis gave away why they were there ignoring the Government guidelines.

"The vehicle and the individuals were searched, and cannabis was recovered.

"The current laws set in place are there to protect you, your loved ones and the wider community #stayhomesavelives

"Further patrols found that the public were overall doing their bit, thank you."
