North West Leicestershire District Council has started construction on new social housing in Measham.

The authority has confirmed work has begun on four two bedroom houses, one three bed house and a one bed bungalow on Queen's Street.

The works are being carried out by Scope Construction to build the new homes on the site, which was formerly a sheltered housing complex.

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Housing at NWLDC said: 'I'm pleased to announce our partnership with Scope Construction to deliver six much-needed new properties.

'These modern, energy efficient homes will provide high-quality accommodation for tenants and support the council's commitment to increasing the supply of affordable housing across the district.'
