Conkers is set to celebrate its 25th birthday later this month.

The visitor attraction at Moira will be holding a special weekend to mark the anniversary on March 29-30.

Conkers, near Ashby, promises a weekend of fun, adventure and celebrations with its biggest 'birthday bash' yet - including a range of exciting activities, entertainment and special surprises.

It opened in 1999, initially as the National Forest Visitor Centre, and was constructed on a former colliery site.

The first phase was based around a small-scale centre on a 12-acre site, with a focus on the National Forest project and creating a low-key day out experience, with an amphitheatre and external play zone.

Following the development of a business plan, which was used to raise over £16 million, the National Forest Visitor Centre was transformed into the Conkers Discovery Centre in 2000, an attraction developed over a 120-acre site with the building of the Discovery Centre, interactive zones, indoor play, new cafes, a retail space and a train linking the new Discovery to the Waterside Centres. 

Conkers says it is now one of the Midlands' leading visitor attractions.

To celebrate this milestone anniversary, CONKERS will be arranging events and activities over the weekend, including:

• Disco Party – the Interactive Hall will be buzzing with music, dancing and games to keep the party atmosphere going from 12-4pm
• Big Birthday Photo Prop – snap a selfie at our birthday photo zone and share it on the CONKERS Facebook page to join in the celebration
• Free Taster Sessions – ever wanted to try archery, kata or pedalos? Now's your chance, with special taster sessions running throughout the weekend
• Birthday Bonanza Bushcraft – get hands-on with outdoor survival skills in a special birthday-themed bushcraft experience
• Mini Olympic Games – join the Rangers for a red, white & blue-themed sporting challenge, inspired by the colours of British summertime
• Live Party Entertainment – the Amphitheatre stage will be packed with fantastic party shows throughout the weekend
• Craft a Celebration – get creative and help us build a giant birthday piece of art
• Find the Silver Balloons – 25 silver balloons have been hidden around the site – find one to win a prize. Snap a picture and share it on Facebook to show off your discovery
• Be Part of the Conkers Memory Mural – a special mural is being created in the Discovery Centre, featuring your favourite Conkers moments. You are invited to send in your best Conkers memories and photos on Facebook for a chance to have your special moment featured.
