Community graffiti removal kits available to 'help keep neighbourhoods looking their best'
By James Smith 30th Apr 2026
North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) is launching a new community-led scheme to tackle low-level graffiti, giving residents and community groups the tools they need to "help improve the look and feel of their neighbourhoods".
The Graffiti Removal Kit scheme is part of the council's Love Your Neighbourhood campaign and will "allow residents, businesses and community groups to safely remove minor graffiti from suitable surfaces they own or have permission to clean".
The scheme has been allocated £5,000 for 2026/27, funding approximately 105 graffiti removal kits and supporting communities across the district.
While council teams will continue to prioritise offensive, hate-related or complex graffiti, many minor incidents can be safely addressed quickly by volunteers who will have access to the right equipment and guidance.
Each graffiti removal kit includes:
- A solvent‑free, biodegradable graffiti remover
- Cleaning wipes and cloths
- Protective gloves and goggles
- Clear instructions on how to use the kit.
Cllr Michael Wyatt, portfolio holder for communities and climate change at NWLDC, said: "Low-level graffiti can quickly make an area feel neglected if it is not dealt with promptly.
"This scheme gives residents the opportunity to take pride in their area and act quickly, while making sure anything offensive or complex is still dealt with by trained council teams."
"It's a practical, positive way for people to work with us to keep the district looking clean, cared for and welcoming."
