The venue for this Sunday's first public meeting of the Save The Royal group has been changed.

Increased demand has forced organisers to switch the event from Zamani's restaurant to The White Hart pub in Market Street.

A message on the group's Facebook page reads: "Please note the venue for the coming meeting this Sunday has been changed to the back room at The White Hart due to the increased interest.

"The event has been altered accordingly."

The group was set up just weeks ago to address the state of the Royal Hotel which has stood empty for four years.

Owners Oakland then submitted revised plans for the re-development of the site Royal owners put forward new plans and make images public.

Now the meeting, which starts at 6.30pm, has been called to discuss the way forward - with many residents in Ashby concerned about the future of the building which is almost 200 years old.

The group posted details earlier this month of how meeting will take shape and says: "This is an open forum meeting to discuss the way forward, agree some immediate action points, and fact find.

"There are different points of view at present, so initially, let's get as much information as possible about the current position.

"Please bring ideas and supporting facts (eg, if we were looking to crowdfund, how does it work and how the platforms work/differ).

"With the amount of interest it seems sensible to elect a "steering committee". Should this be done at this meeting or at a future meeting when we've had an idea of what direction the consensus is taking us?"
