A Ravenstone-based nursery - with a site in Ashby - has won a prestigious national award.

Bilingual Day Nursery Ravenstone has been awarded the highly-coveted Communication Friendly Setting Award, recognising its efforts in creating an environment which supports the communication and language development for all children. 

The award is granted by Elklan, a leading organisation dedicated to promoting effective communication practices in schools throughout the UK.

It celebrates nurseries, primary and secondary schools that demonstrate outstanding commitment to fostering language development and communication skills among young learners.

Kelly Bremridge, the Lead Communication Practitioner has a Level 4 accreditation in Speech and Language.

She said: "We are incredibly proud to receive the Communication Friendly Setting Award.

"This accolade is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, who strive to create a communication-rich learning environment and particularly support children who have communication needs."

The award evaluation process included an intense training programme comprising a 10-week speech and language course covering the complex subject of speech, language and communication development for children and young people.

The assessors said they were particularly impressed with staff at the Bilingual Day Nursery - and their ability to support children who were less confident with their communication skills, as well as children using and responding to both English and Spanish across the setting. 

The Bilingual Day Nurseries say they continue to set high standards in early childhood education, and this award is a significant milestone in their ongoing commitment to excellence.

The Ravenstone site is looking forward to further enhancing its communication-friendly practices and sharing its success with the broader early years community with its Ashby site, and those hopeful to be awarded a place for the next intake of CFS in September.
