Ashby’s Ivanhoe School in top ten for most suspended students in Leicestershire

In data recently published by the Department of Education for academic year 2023/4, Ivanhoe School in Ashby has been named as the school in Leicestershire with the tenth most suspensions.
The data showed that in the 2023 academic year, 352 students were suspended or permanently excluded from the school, across the 190-day school year.
The school with the highest number of suspensions or permanent exclusions for the same year is Rawlins Academy in Quorn with 803, an average of four students a day.
The ten schools in Leicestershire with the highest number of pupils suspended in one academic year are:
- Rawlins Academy, Quorn – 803,
- Orchard Mead Academy, Hamilton – 743,
- Fullhurst Community College, Braunstone – 680,
- Ibstock School, Ibstock – 587,
- The Winstanley School, Braunstone Town – 546,
- John Ferneley College, Melton – 467,
- Castle Mead Academy, Leicester City Centre – 466,
- Castle Rock School, Coalville – 402,
- Wreake Valley Academy, Syston – 375,
- Ivanhoe School, Ashby – 352
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of suspensions and exclusions at state secondary schools have more than doubled, from 10.7 pupils per 100 pupils in 2018, to 18.9 in 2022 and 22.6 pupils in 100 in 2023.
