Ashby de la Zouch Town Council reported a mainly successful return to business for pubs and restaurants in the town at the weekend.

As expected, increased numbers came into the town which gave hospitality in Ashby a much-needed boost.

There were some that forgot the social distancing measures - but it did not prove to be the serious problem that other towns in the East Midlands experienced last weekend.

Ashby's Town Centre Manager Stuart Benson said: "Overall it went very smoothly and in the majority it worked very well.

"The Bluebell, Queens and Plough were very satisfied and had good steady trade throughout - just a few minor tweaks needed to help things run more smoothly,

"The town saw a large increase in footfall which was welcomed by all hospitality venues.

"A large screen on a lorry was doing the rounds reminding people to remain safe and showing positive messaging about taxis and social distancing.

"There were a few people getting excited and forgetting the social distancing rules - but overall, people obeyed the new measures and everyone had a good time."
