Ashby's Lyric Rooms is hosting a heat of the British Comedian of the Year Competition on Thursday night.

The national comedy competition is billed as having the biggest prize in comedy - and 10 professional and semi-pro comics will battle it out.

Industry judges and the audience will help pick the winners.

Doors open at 7.15pm for an 8pm start.

Up and coming comics will perform for the chance of reaching the Grand Final.

The competition looks to support comedians who are funny week-in, week-out around the UK yet are often overlooked by other awards.

Among the acts scheduled to take part are: Aideen McQueen, Darius Davies, Don Biswas, Jacob Nussey, Jack Vincent, Jon Pearson, Lyle Barke, Paul Campbell and Pete Teckman.
