Ashby is to get a new set of blue plaques this year to add to the others marking historical points in the town.

Ken Hillier, director of Ashby Museum, said that the scheme had originally started in the 1980s - but had now been revived.

He also said that the plaques would mirror other market towns in England which were using them to tell their story to visitors.

A number of plaques can been seen in Ashby, and Mr Hillier says more are on the way.

He spoke to Monday's Annual Town Meeting of Ashby de la Zouch Town Council.

Mr Hillier said: "You will all have seen - a couple of grammatical errors included - the blue plaques in Market Street.

"Way back in the 1980s, we did six with the museum, the Town Council and Ashby Civic Society.

"Then, thanks to a positive reaction from the powers that be, we started it up again.

"We had the first lot last year, and I believe more are coming very soon.

"If you go to places like Tewkesbury, Evesham, Ludlow and so on, they're all up for people to see.

"It'll be great to see.

"There will also be little discs marking the former courts in the town."

Mr Hillier also made an appeal for more volunteers to work at Ashby Museum as they are in need of more peope.
