W Taylor Butchers in Ashby town centre has changed hands following the retirement of David and Julie Gothard.

But it is staying in the family as son Mat - of Bates of Atherstone - will now be running the Market Street business.

An announcement was made on social media this week - giving full details of the handover.

The message from David thanked staff and customers and let them know what would be happening.

It reads: "W Taylor - High-Class Family Butchers, has always and always will be a family business.

"After a career of doing what I love with the support of my wife Julie, now is the time for us both to find out what retirement means - eventually!

"We will be supporting and working with Mat as he transitions from running one shop to three, and we will continue to operate as business as usual- just with Mat at the helm!

"Mat is our son, but is also the owner of a very successful and reputable Butchers in Atherstone.

"We are extremely proud of his accomplishments and wish him, and those at W Taylor Butchers and Bates Butchers continued growth and success for the future.

"To our fantastic staff - without your support and loyalty, what we have achieved over the years would not have been possible. Thank you.

"To our customers- if you are a regular, have just visited once, or observed via the means of social media - thank you for your support, custom, loyalty, kindness and friendship.

"Finally, to our wider community of suppliers and fellow business owners - we wish you all continued success. Love and best wishes."
