Ashby tip was broken into during the early hours of Sunday morning and damage caused to the site.

The Lount Landfill site was closed to visitors to the centre on Nottingham Road - and Leicestershire County Council says it will remain shut for the early part of this week.

Leicestershire Police's enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made as yet.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Ashby Nub News: "A report was received that the office at the Lount landfill site had been broken into was received just after 8.20am on Sunday.

"It was reported damage had been caused to a fence and the office building.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are continuing."

Leicestershire County Council issued a statement regarding the incident this morning (Tuesday).

It says: "We can confirm that unfortunately the Lount Recycling and Household Waste Site was subject to a break-in and vandalism during the early hours of Sunday morning.

"We are working to get the site operational again as soon as we can, but it will remain closed to the public until we have made safe the damage caused and ask that residents keep their eye on our website for any updates.

"Alternative sites are available at Coalville and Shepshed, please check our website HERE for opening times.

"We have reported the incident to the police and will continue to co-operate with them during their investigation.

"We ask that if any resident spots anything suspicious on-site during the night, they report it to the police."
