An Ashby business has been named among the best eight tanning salons in the UK - less than a year after opening.

La Zouch, in Bath Street, received the nomination at the recent Englands Business Awards.

That was after winning the 'Best Tanning Salon in Leicestershire' category in August.

La Zouch owner, Milly Baker, said: "We attended the county awards last summer and won the best in our category.

"So then we were invited to the nationals, which was in November. We didn't win, there was some tough competition - but the business has only been around for a year so we've made huge progress.

"There's always this year when it comes to winning more awards.

"It was December 23 in 2023 when we opened in Ashby and a lot has happened since."

To mark the salon's first anniversary, Milly is organising a special event later this month.

She said: "We're holding a business birthday event on Sunday, January 12, at Twelve in Bath Street. 

"We've invited local businesses and got them involved in the gift bags and prizes too."

Moira-based Milly had been working as a receptionist at a local veterinary surgery before deciding to branch out and become a young entrepreneur at the age of just 21.

She bought the business from the previous owner with her mum, and although it meant opening just a few days before Christmas 12 months ago, Milly decided it was best to get up and running as soon as possible.

Since then however, La Zouch has gone from strength to strength.
