An Ashby store has been given the go-ahead to change its shop front - after its first design met with opposition.
The Supernews shop and Post Office in Market Street applied for a new fascia and window graphics.
A new Spar sign is set to be fitted across the front of the shop.
The original application was made last October.
But Ashby de la Zouch Town Council expressed concern that the inside of the store would not be visible from outside encouraging theft.
The council's planning committee also said the internal illumination was not permitted.
In November, Ashby Town Council said the following details needed to be addressed.
a) Retain existing historic shop fronts and features of architectural and historic interest;
b) Respect the scale, proportions, character and materials of the whole building and where appropriate, adjoining buildings and the wider street scene;
c) Incorporate materials appropriate to the age and character of the building;
d) Have regard to the guidance on shop fronts and signage. The Town Council also seek clarification on opaque window displays as these are unsightly and could also encourage burglary / theft
Ashby Civic Society also objected to the plans which were then re-submitted by West Midlands based company Blakemore Design & Shopfitting.
Last year, the Civic Society said: "We object to the current appearance of the shop front which is inappropriate to a conservation area.
"Specifically we object to the opaque film entirely covering the windows and the flashing illumination of the ATM machine.
"The Council would encourage an active shop window display and would discourage the use of opaque window film to obscure the shop window.
"For listed buildings it is rarely acceptable to use opaque window film to obscure the shop window.
"We would therefore ask that the council policy is enforced in this application and also that the council uses its enforcement powers to remove the current obscure film."
But the changes have now met with the approval of Ashby Town Council which said: "Ashby de la Zouch Town Council believes from this amended application that all internal illuminated signage has been removed.
"If this is definitely the case, and all illumination is now external, then the Town Council does not object to this application.
"If there is still some internal illumination then the Town Council maintains its objection as internal illumination is not permitted as per the Ashby la Zouch Neighbourhood Plan policy."
Ashby Civic Society added: "We have examined the revised plans for the shop front which shows a marked improvement on the existing appearance and the previous unacceptable proposal.
"We confirm that these latest proposals are acceptable.
"We would add that we expect the flashing light surround of the ATM to be removed.
"If this application does not proceed we would expect that the council uses its enforcement powers to remove the current obscure film."
