Plans are in place to stage Ashby Statutes as usual in September - but there are still doubts as to whether the famous street fair can actually take place.

The Coronavirus lockdown is gradually being eased but it is still impossible to say at what stage it will be in three months' time.

A road closure has been applied for and, as things stand, the fair intends to arrive as usual with Pat Collins Funfairs staging what would be the 801st Statues which takes over and closes down Market Street.

But Government guidance will come into play at the time and it remains to be seen how fairs fit into future plans.

Because the Staututes is an unticketed event, the number of people attending the event cannot be controlled.

But even if safety restrictions are in place, the fair could still be cancelled.

Distancing measures may make it hard to run the event as normal way which could mean it is not cost effective to run.

But the fair organisers are likely to leave it late before making a final decision.

Another of Ashby's events, Jim's Tractor Run, has been postponed until September 6.

But that may also have to be cancelled if bans on mass gatherings are still in place.

Again, it is an unticketed event with the number of people attending impossible to control.

A decision is expected on whether the Tractor Run can be held in early July and could come next week.
