A creative six-year-old from Ashby has her eyes on the prize after winning a competition to design a pair of glasses.

Lyla, a regional winner of the national competition organised by Scrivens, was presented with a collection of Paddington Bear books and a fun model of her design.

She collected her prize at Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care in Market Street.

Youngsters were encouraged to submit their imaginative designs, with all proceeds from the £1 entry fee going to Scrivens chosen charity the Alzheimer's Society.

Each branch had competition entry forms in store.

Children visiting the branch for themselves, or perhaps for a family member's eye or hearing care, had the chance to take part in exchange for a small donation.

Branch manager Elizabeth Holme-Cherry said: "Alzheimer's Society is our chosen charity for the eighth successive year.

"This was a fun way to engage children and raise awareness of the charity and its work.

"Lyla did a great job with her design and is a very worthy winner!"

Lyla lives locally and visits the Ashby branch for her annual eye test.

Her mother Jennifer said: "We were in the branch when Lyla saw the competition and decided to have a go.

"We're delighted that she won and she's really proud to see her design come to life!"

Family business Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care is celebrating its 85th anniversary having been established in 1938.

It has 169 stores in England and Wales with 1,000 employees.
