Six Ashby School students who went to the aid of a stranger with a head injury have been presented with the Headteacher's Award.

Sixth Formers Reece Evans-Sellers, Lewis Godsell, Amy Weston, Louisa Afnoukh, Bethan Tilley, Isobel Springthorpe and Lucy Bremridge all played a part in ensuring the woman was safe and comfortable, after she collapsed in the street, hitting her head.

Headteacher Dr Jude Mellor presented awards to all six students and commended them on their actions.

A witness contacted the school to say how impressed she was by the 'thoughtful and compassionate' way in which the students reacted to the incident.

Dr Mellor told the Ashby School website:: "These students showed great maturity, kindness and presence of mind in going to the aid of a stranger in trouble.

"We're extremely proud of what they did both as individuals and as ambassadors for Ashby School."

Following the woman's fall, the students called an ambulance, located a first aid kit and found somewhere safe and warm for her to wait for the ambulance.

They did not leave until it was clear the woman was comfortable and had support from others in the local community.
