Biscuits designed by Ashby School students in a 'Create a Bake' competition have been baked by snack giant McVitie's.

Year 7 students were challenged to create their own biscuit, making decisions about the its branding, flavour, ingredients, design and packaging.

They were asked to base their design around a road safety theme.

The final designs were judged by a team from Pladis, which owns McVitie's, who decided to use three of the top entries to create a final product.

The biscuits – called McSafeties – featured a traffic light design and used the slogan 'It's better to be safe than sorry' on the packaging.

The name, design and slogan were all lifted from the students' entries.

Steve Bristoll from Pladis said: "All of the entries blew us away and made it very difficult to choose just one winner.

"That's why we decided to pick our favourite elements from three of the designs to create the perfect final product.

"Congratulations to all the students who were involved. We certainly have some budding future marketing specialists at Ashby School!"

During a special assembly, visitors from Pladis explained the process of turning the designs into a physical biscuit product.

Stacy Cooper, Head of Year 7 at Ashby School, said: "It was incredible to see the students' designs transformed into an actual product that you might see in the supermarket.

"This has been an amazing experience for all the students who have learned so much about design, manufacture and marketing, as well as refreshing their road safety awareness.

"We are extremely grateful to Pladis for all the time and expertise they have devoted to this project."
