Ashby residents living with dementia - and their families - are being invited to take part in a relaunched pilot project designed to provide greater support in the home.

Leicestershire County Council in partnership with five district councils - including North West Leicestershire District Council - is looking for around 50 people with dementia from across the county, who live with a family member or an unpaid carer, to help test a new assistive technology system.

People with dementia will have activity and daily routine in the home monitored using sensors, a smart plug and a sleep sensor.

This information is then shared - via an app - to a family member/friend, showing a timeline of activity as well as raising any issues of concern.

Councillor Richard Blunt, county council cabinet member for adult social care, said: "We're really keen to explore how effective some of the new digital technology could be in supporting people with dementia and their carers.

"The volunteers, who we hope will come forward to take part in this free trial, will be able to give us their honest opinion on how well this type of equipment works for them and what could be improved."

If you or a member of your family is a resident in one of the council areas, you may be able to take part in our six-month pilot project.
