Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has given the go-ahead to the Proms in the Park event in August.

It is due to be held on the 28th, over the Bank Holiday weekend, at the Bath Grounds.

And while other Ashby events have been cancelled up to the beginning of July, it is hoped that Covid restrictions will have been eased significantly by the end of August.

Proms in the Park is likely to become an annual event with the 2022 version already in the pipeline.

Monday's meeting of the Events & Entertainment committee was presented with a proposal detailing how the event would be set up.

The event is being organised by Radar Event Serivces, Ashby company Kangaroo and Ashby de la Zouch Town Council.

They are pressing ahead with arrangement but are fully aware that social distancing measures are still likely to be in place.

With that in mind, there will be a set maximum on ticket sales and they will be allocated in pods rather than individually.

All tickets for the event are to be pre-sold, with track and trace details requested.

Volunteers will be used to ensure there is no mixing of 'bubbles'.

There are likely to be 180 pods, each containing a maximum of six people. Also, 94 VIP pods are planned.

The stage will be set up at the bottom of the bank below the Royal Hotel to ensure a distance from the public.

The committee was also informed that the 2022 event is already being planned with tickets available on the night and craft and individual stalls to extend the day.

Next year, a fireworks display is planned to close the event.

Ashby's Town Centre Manager Stuart Benson said: "The three groups have come together to put on a Proms in the Park event.

"This will be Covid secure in socially distanced bubbles with tickets available from a website.

"We're hoping it'll be a great event that will be an annual event from then on."

Harriet Allen, who prepared the report for the committee, added: "It's a different event to everything else that's currently on in Ashby.

"It'll be a nice addition. It'll be the Bank Holiday Saturday, we've left it as late in the season as possible in the hope that it can go ahead."
