Specsavers in Market Street committed to donating £1 from each eye test carried out for a week - and it totalled £194.

All the money raised is aimed at directly benefit local families, and tried to make a real difference in their community over the festive season.

Having witnessed first-hand the hardships faced by local communities this year, Specsavers Ashby says it felt very strongly about helping out in whatever way it could.

Kuljinder Bains, Specsavers Ashby de la Zouch store director, said: 'We know that many people are trying to cope with the rising cost of living and a huge number are finding it extremely difficult.

"We see people from our nearby communities every day in our store and hear their stories – so we wanted to do our bit to support them.

'Funds raised for the foodbank near to our store meant that much needed grocery supplies could be bought to give directly to local families in need, helping them to get through the festivities and school holidays with plenty to eat."
