Ashby Netball Club's fundraising world record attempt this weekend has already raised £15,000.

The event will aim to raise money for the Midlands-based charity Kids Village - which is the UK's first purpose-built holiday venue just for children with critical illness and their families.

The club will be aiming to break the world record for the number of netball goals scored in a 24 hour period.

It will be taking place this weekend (February 4-5), at Charnwood College in Loughborough with over 30 participants and 20 officials to validate the record bid.

Ashby Nub News told you last month the background to the marathon session.

The idea came from Ashby-based mum Carla Garey who said it inspired by here one year old girl, Evelyn, who has a rare and incurable health condition called Hirschsprung disease, amongst other health problems."

A gofundme page HERE has been set up where people can donate to the cause.

But since then, the response has been huge.

Carla said: "Initially the target was £3,000, then I upped to £6k, then £10k and then £15k.

"We are currently are at over £15,000 and we expect lots more money to come in over the weekend itself.

"The support and momentum for this challenge has just been incredible.

"We particularly want to promote our chosen charity - The Kids Village and its incredible story.

"Our participants have been training relentlessly and we are now aiming for over 20,000 goals in the period - and to raise as much money as we can.

"It's gone from an idea, inspired by my precious daughter, Evelyn and her journey so far in and out of hospital after being born so poorly, to a reality of what we are about to undertake on Saturday and Sunday.

"We have some Super League netball players coming and some activities planned, spectators are welcome."

The world record attempt is being held at Charnwood College, Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th from 12pm to 12pm.
