Rising Ashby music star Sekou Sylla made his TV debut last night (Saturday) when on Jools Holland's 'Later' show.

The former Ashby School student has been making steady progress as a recording artist.

He played a set at the Glastonbury Festival last year - and returned to Ashby for a home town show last April.

But he got valuable air time on the BBC when he sang 'Better Man' on a show which also included musicians such as Corinne Bailey Rae, Bombay Bicycle Club and Billy Bragg.

Sekou posted on social media this week ahead of his first television appearance.

He wrote: "Just a small boy from Ashby, well this is definitely life-changing, from Ivanhoe to Jools, I generally can't believe it.

"Wow, who would have known?

"My TV debut this Saturday, 10.45pm on Jools Holland.

"This is just the start of a crazy journey!

"Ashby to the world, somebody pinch me."

The reaction to Sekou's performance on social media following the show was good - as he appeared to impress viewers.

HillsVI posted on X: 'His name was Sekou, great voice'

David J added: This is one of the best Laters I've seen in years. Corinne Bailey Rae, Cleo Sol and CMAT responsible for four of the best albums this year. That Sekou boy has an incredible voice."

John Ellis posted: 'Wow, Sekou is some talent, and that's from someone in his sixties'

Colin Foy said: 'Sekou, some voice, that's how I like to think I sound in the shower!"
