The wife of Andrew Bridgen has claimed in a national newspaper interview that the Ashby MP has been 'captured by an antivax cult'.

Nevena Bridgen has given an interview to the Sunday Times in which she says Mr Bridgen, the MP for North West Leicestershire, had become 'radicalised'.

She says her marriage has been torn apart by a 'sect', claiming it has 'taken over' her husband.

The newspaper also claims she has filed for divorce and has been made homeless as a result of the breakdown of the marriage.

The Sunday Times report also says that, in 2022, the MP and his family were ordered to vacate his £1.5 million constituency home with a swimming pool and stables, set in 5.5 acres in Coleorton.

Nevena told the newspaper: "The first alarming sign of radicalisation was when it was obvious that he was turning on us, when our child got terribly ill.

"There was no way of pleading with him. The human cost of radicalisation and the devastating impact it can have on individuals and their families, and in this case, our family, was spelled out for me for the first time in bold colours.

"The antivax conspiracy theorist movement destroyed my life when Andrew became their foot soldier.

"I watched my life shatter into pieces as I lost access to the household bank account, and kicked out on the street with a child just in time for Christmas."

Mr Bridgen was thrown out of the Conservative Party last year due to his views on the Government's Covid vaccination policy.

He joined the Reclaim Party, run by actor Laurence Fox, only to resign.

Mr Bridgen now represents the constituency as an Independent MP and is currently in a libel court case with former Health Secretary, Matt Hancock.

The couple were also involved in a legal battle with Bridgen's younger brother, Paul, over the family business.

Mr Bridgen, it has been claimed by the newspaper, was eventually forced to borrow at least £3.9 million from a former Tory Party donor to help fund the legal battle.

In mid-December, the Sunday Times says he won his case against his brother and claims he will soon be the 100 per cent shareholder of the multimillion-pound business.

Nevena, a classically-trained opera singer, says in her interview: "We were always under pressure. It was really tough but there was always this promise of a normal life and that there would be a silver lining."

She also spoke of Mr Bridgen's 'Andrew's Army' and the MP last week set up a new website which crashed over the weekend due to the level of interest.

Nevena says she was unhappy about Mr Bridgen's attitude when their child was 'gravely ill' in hospital.

She is said to have told him to return home from a Children's Health Defence conference in Sweden as their son had become unwell.

Novena added: "There was no longer time for me or his child. He just spent time with these people and then he would come home and dump all this paralysing fear on me, telling me that we were all going to die in five years' time. If I refused to listen he would get aggravated. I became a person he no longer trusted.

"That was the moment where I felt he was putting the ideology before the health and wellbeing of his child and showed the full neglect of his parental responsibilities."

The report says that when Mr Bridgen returned he told her that the whole of "humanity was at stake" and, if he succeeded he would be saving the world — something he hoped his son would one day be proud of. 

Nevena added: "I felt like I was in that Matrix film and that he was telling me he was the chosen one. Except this is not a blockbuster movie, this is my life."

Mr Bridgen has said his work is aimed at 'safeguarding the health and safety of the constituents who voted for him'.

Nevena said the first signs of her husband being 'influenced' came during a Zoom call.

She said: "It was crazy, they were talking about crimes against humanity and someone saying that this was all done to eradicate the population.

"They went on to say something along the lines of: 'You have to do your job now and call out the mainstream media and tell people the truth. This is your mission.' 

"The person spoke of a global military alliance. They were basically encouraging insurrection and saying the military should take this into their own hands.

"Suddenly there were all these people coming into our lives and taking over. There is this parallel reality that is very present out there. And I'm in the middle of it all trying desperately to keep our family together."

"I was slowly rolling into homelessness because on December 21 our tenancy would run out on the existing Westminster flat and we had nowhere else to go.

Mr Bridgen disputes this account of events and responded to the article on social media yesterday morning (Sunday).

He refers to the journalist who wrote the article, Caroline Wheeler, and posted: "Her piece rakes over the embers of a marriage which sadly, like so many during the pandemic, did not work out: a marriage with a small boy at the centre of it who will one day grow up and read her article.

"Caroline's unquestionable journalistic talents - and the vast resources of The Sunday Times - would surely be much better deployed investigating the spike in excess deaths we have seen, and the evidence of a link between that spike and the Covid vaccines. Since MPs from across the political divide such as Philip Davies MP and Graham Stringer MP have been asking questions of the government about this, why is a paper such as the Sunday Times not doing the same?
