Ashby MP Andrew Bridgen was one of the 99 MPs who voted against the Plan B Covid pass regulations.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson suffered the biggest rebellion since he became prime minister – with almost 100 Conservatives rebelling against the new measures announced last week.
While the new restrictions passed thanks to support from Labour, questions were being asked about Johnson's future as his working majority of 80-plus was wiped out.
Last night (Tuesday), a total of 99 Conservative MPs – around a one-third of the Tories in the Commons – voted against the government on plans to introduce Covid passes for selected venues."
The passes will force people in England to show their vaccine status or a negative test at nightclubs and crowded venues.
Mr Bridgen had made his views clear on the subject beforehand and it was no surprise he was one of the Tory rebels.
He said in Parliament: "In my view, the most dangerous epidemic sweeping the world and sweeping our country is an epidemic of fear.
"It has seriously damaged mental health and in particularly damaged the mental health of our young people, it must end.
"The best protection of all is having had the virus and then recovered.
"The scientific evidence shows that you are 10-20 times less likely to be re-infected if you've already had the virus, than you would if you'd been double vaccinated.
"Many thousands of individuals in key worker roles, who've had and recovered from the virus - and refuse to have the vaccine - will most likely lose their jobs."
Mr Bridgen GB News: "Omicron is more contagious, but the symptoms are mild. The science I'm seeing doesn't support these lockdown measures."
The Conservative MP for North West Leicestershire found support from North West Leicestershire-based County Councillor Craig Smith who posted: "Pleased that our MP Andrew Bridgen, along with 98 of his Conservative back bench colleagues, stood up for small business and our civil liberties."
Mr Bridgen's views echoed those given to Ashby Nub News in July, you can read that article HERE.
