MP Amanda Hack has voiced the efforts of the Ashby Santa Fun Run & Walk organisers after they raised over £100,000 for charity over the past decade.

The Rotary Club of Ashby Castle announced this month that the total money raised at December's event was £9,801.

Ms Hack, the MP for North West Leicestershire, highlighted the feat in the House of Commons.

She said: I would like to extend a huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Ashby de la Zouch Castle who recently announced that the Ashby Santa Fun Run & Walk has raised over £100,000 for local charities over the past 10 years.

"I've enjoyed participating in this run over the past few years. For many, it marks the beginning of the Christmas season while also supporting wonderful local charities. The dedication of all the volunteers who organise this fantastic event each year is truly inspiring."

The Rotary Club gave details of the fundraising efforts last month.

It said: "We are delighted to announce that the 2024 Ashby Santa Fun Run & Walk raised a phenomenal £9801 for charity!

"This is a fantastic achievement made possible by the support of all who entered, businesses who sponsored us and those who donated along the way!

"This has meant that over the 10 years of this event you have all helped us to raise £100,488 for the charities that we have supported! A staggering figure that almost feels unbelievable!

"We were delighted to hold our cheque presentation, attended by representatives of our chosen charities, our club members, event partners and some of our sponsors as we presented Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People, LOROS Hospice and Staunton Harold Sailability Trust with cheques for £2,600 each.

"Each charity outlined where some of this money will be spent and thanked all who entered, sponsored and supported this year's event.

"This money will make a real difference in delivering the amazing services that all of the charities do to improve the lives of others. The remaining monies will go towards supporting other Rotary charities throughout the coming year.

"The organising committee and all at Rotary Club of Ashby de la Zouch Castle would like to thank everybody who helped us to deliver this year's event and we look forward to seeing you all again at the 2025 event on Sunday, December 7, 2025!"
