THE first round of funding for up to 300 school-based nurseries has launched with £15 million available to Primary Schools in England.
And Ashby MP Amanda Hack says schools across North West Leicestershire will now be able to benefit from applying for capital funding to support a nursery provision.
The initial funding will bring families closer to affordable, high-quality education as part of a plan to deliver 3,000 school-based nurseries.
This work is part of the mission to break the link between background and opportunity, delivering on the manifesto commitment to broaden access for everyone across the country.
Schools can apply for up to £150,000 towards converting surplus space to provide a new or expanded nursery provision.
The MP for North West Leicestershire said: "While all parts of the nursery sector are vital to supporting the growth of our children, local schools are at the heart of our communities.
"Where there is spare capacity and additional early years demand it's important we look to expand the school-nursery provision.
"It's proven that school-based nurseries have a lower staff turnover, many already use staff between reception and early years, providing consistency of education for our children.
"Having recently visited several schools it is clear both parents and teachers support this move to enhance the provision.
"Primary Schools across North West Leicestershire will now be able to benefit from applying for capital funding to support a nursery provision. Across Leicestershire an additional 10% capacity is required ahead of September 2025 to meet the expected early years demand."
"Providers and schools are urged to work closely with local authorities to ensure that proposals meet the needs of local people and work towards the government's aim to break down the barriers to opportunity. The government is also working closely with the sector to expand a recruitment campaign to encourage more people into a career in early years provision."
