Two collisions are causing delays to travellers heading from Ashby to East Midlands Airport.

Highways England report that the A453 southbound is blocked at Gateway Island, between the M1J24 and Donington Park services due to a collision.

They also report that the M1 northbound between J23A and J24 has one lane closed.

Traffic officers are on the scene with emergency services heading to the incident.

Highways England urges motorists to drive with care and slow down through these areas. They say they will clear the road as soon as they can.

Motorists are being urged to find an alternative route to the airport.

Highways England now says that the A453 collision has been cleared but drivers are currently looking at around half an hours delay along that stretch of road, although it is easing.
